Here's the truth: Strange World has all the ingredients of a solid family film—gorgeous animation, positive themes about family and environmentalism, inclusive representation—but it just doesn't come together in a compelling way.
The box office disaster (one of Disney's biggest flops) and low audience scores tell the real story. A 5.7 on IMDb and 2.8 on Letterboxd means people found it boring, forgettable, or both. Critics were kinder (72% on RT), but even they noted pacing issues and underdeveloped characters.
The world-building is genuinely cool, and there are meaningful conversations to be had about generational expectations and environmental responsibility. The casual LGBTQ+ representation is done well. But your kids will probably lose interest halfway through, and nobody's going to be asking to rewatch this one.
It's fine if you need something new on Disney+ and you've exhausted everything else, but don't expect it to become a family favorite. This is the definition of "meh"—not harmful, not terrible, just... there.
