Soul is Pixar firing on all cylinders—visually stunning, emotionally rich, and genuinely philosophical. It's one of those rare kids' movies that trusts its audience to grapple with big questions about death, purpose, and what makes life meaningful.
The representation of Black culture and jazz is authentic and beautiful. The animation of abstract concepts is creative genius. And the message—that life's meaning isn't found in one grand achievement but in savoring everyday moments—is exactly what kids (and adults) need to hear in our achievement-obsessed culture.
That said, this isn't a light watch. Death happens in the first act, and the whole movie deals with the afterlife. Younger or sensitive kids might find it heavy or scary. But for families ready to have those conversations, Soul is incredibly enriching. Just be prepared for some big questions afterward—and maybe have tissues handy.
