Quantum of Solace is the Bond film even Bond fans struggle to defend. Coming off the high of Casino Royale, this sequel is a joyless, hyperkinetic mess that prioritizes style over substance—except the style is just stealing from the Bourne films, and badly.
The plot is convoluted, the villain is forgettable, and the action is edited so frantically you can't tell who's punching whom. There's a decent idea buried here about water rights and corporate villainy, but it's drowned (sorry) in relentless violence and Bond's single-note quest for vengeance.
Parents should know this is one of the darker, more brutal PG-13 films out there. The sexual assault scene, the oil-covered corpse, the overall bleakness—it's a lot. Common Sense Media's 15+ recommendation feels right. Even then, it's hard to recommend when there are so many better Bond films (including the other Craig entries) that deliver thrills without the migraine-inducing editing and emotional void.
If your teen is a completist working through the Bond catalog, fine. Otherwise, skip to Skyfall.
