Let's be real: Pluto TV is not a kids app, despite what the title 'Pluto TV Kids' might suggest. It's a free ad-supported streaming service that replicates the cable TV experience—complete with commercials, channel surfing, and a bunch of content your kids absolutely should not see.
The Kids Mode exists, sure, but SaferKid rates this app as inappropriate for children, and MSN notes its parental controls are weaker than competitors. Kids can exit Kids Mode with a tap, and even before you enable it, they're scrolling past horror movies, true crime shows, and reality TV thumbnails.
The content quality in Kids Mode is bottom-tier: old Nickelodeon reruns, public domain cartoons, and whatever licensing scraps Paramount can afford. No educational programming, no thoughtful curation, just passive consumption punctuated by ads every few minutes.
If you're considering this because it's free, I get it—streaming subscriptions add up. But YouTube Kids is also free and actually designed for children with better safety controls. PBS Kids is free and enriching. Pluto TV is just... cable TV for people who don't want to pay for cable. It's fine for adults who want background noise, but for kids? Hard pass.
