This is what cooperative board gaming should be. Instead of fighting zombies or diseases (again), you're managing water flow and building infrastructure in 17th-century Netherlands, which is weirdly compelling.
The mechanics hit that sweet spot where kids can understand the basics but there's enough strategic depth that adults aren't bored. Reviews consistently call it the best version of Pandemic, and the 7.5 BGG rating with 3,100 ratings backs that up.
The cooperative nature is genuinely wholesome—you're problem-solving together, not competing. And unlike some co-ops where one person just tells everyone what to do, the water flow puzzle is spatial and visual enough that everyone can contribute ideas.
Is it going to blow your mind? No. But it's a solid, well-designed family game that teaches strategy, teamwork, and a bit of history. If you already own regular Pandemic, this is different enough to justify having both.
