Let's be crystal clear: Ozark is not remotely appropriate for kids or teens. This is a well-made, critically-respected crime thriller for adults who enjoy dark, morally complex narratives. Think Breaking Bad's spiritual cousin.
The show is relentlessly bleak—every episode ratchets up the tension with murders, cartel violence, and characters making increasingly terrible choices. There's no comic relief, no redemption arcs, just a slow descent into moral compromise. It's gripping television if you're an adult who enjoys that genre, but it's also exhausting and anxiety-inducing.
For Screenwise purposes, this scores very low because it fails nearly every criterion for family-appropriate content. The only reason it's not a complete zero is that it's technically well-crafted entertainment for its intended adult audience. But if you're looking for something to watch with your kids or teens? Keep scrolling. This one's for grown-ups only, preferably after the kids are asleep.
