Normal People is a modern heavy-hitter for a reason. It’s not 'wholesome' in any way—it’s actually kind of a gut-punch—but it’s incredibly well-written.
Sally Rooney captures that specific, painful time of life where you're trying to figure out who you are through the lens of another person.
Just be aware: it’s very adult. If your teen is picking this up, they’re going to encounter some very graphic scenes and some pretty dark themes regarding mental health and abuse. It’s a great book, but it’s definitely not light reading for a family road trip.
