Here's the thing: if your kid is deep in their Minecraft phase, this book is catnip. Parents rave about it turning non-readers into kids who actually sit down with a book. The official tips from Mojang developers are legitimately useful for beginners trying to survive their first few nights.
But—and this is a big but—it's from 2015. Minecraft has evolved massively since then. Whole dimensions have been redesigned, dozens of mobs added, entire gameplay systems introduced. So while the basics (punch tree, make crafting table, don't go out at night) still hold true, a lot of the specifics are outdated.
If you can grab it cheap or from the library, it's a decent starter guide. But honestly, YouTube tutorials and the Minecraft wiki are more current and comprehensive. This gets points for being screen-free and parent-approved, but it's basically a time capsule at this point.
