Look, if your teen has watched the first two Maze Runner films, they're going to want to see how it ends—that's just how these things work. The Death Cure delivers on action and wraps up the story, but it's exhausting rather than exhilarating.
The critical reception tells the story: 42% on Rotten Tomatoes, middling scores across the board. It's not offensively bad, just... tired. The YA dystopian wave had crested by 2018, and this feels like it's going through the motions. Lots of running, shooting, explosions, a tearjerker death scene, and a tidy ending.
The violence is notably more intense than typical PG-13 fare—people get shot, there's torture, and the body count is high. It's not gratuitous, but it's not cartoonish Marvel violence either. Teens 13+ can handle it, but this isn't family movie night material.
Bottom line: Fine for franchise completists, but if your kid hasn't started this series, there are better dystopian options out there (Hunger Games holds up better, honestly). And if they're looking for something genuinely enriching with their action, point them toward something with more substance.
