Jersey Boys is a competent but uninspired adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. If you're a Frankie Valli superfan or saw the stage show, you'll appreciate the music and performances. But for everyone else—especially kids—this is a slog.
The movie is R-rated for good reason: constant swearing, smoking, drinking, and the kind of adult dysfunction (gambling debts, alcoholism, broken marriages) that makes it firmly teen-and-up territory. Common Sense Media pegs it at 15+, and that's about right.
The bigger issue? It's just not that engaging. Critics were lukewarm (51% on Rotten Tomatoes), and the stage-to-screen translation feels flat and overlong. Modern kids won't have the patience for a 134-minute biopic about a band they've never heard of, even if the songs are catchy.
If you're looking for a music biopic with more energy and broader appeal, try Bohemian Rhapsody or Rocketman. Jersey Boys is for the parents, not the kids.
