Hotel Transylvania is a perfectly serviceable family animated comedy that does exactly what it sets out to do—entertain kids with goofy monsters while sneaking in some decent messages about acceptance and letting your kids grow up. It's not going to blow anyone's mind, and it's definitely more 'fun sugar rush' than 'meaningful cinema,' but it's harmless and holds up reasonably well for a 2012 release.
The monster-resort premise is genuinely clever, and reimagining classic horror icons as lovable goofballs gives kids a fun entry point to cultural literacy around Dracula, Frankenstein, and company. The father-daughter relationship has real heart, even if the human-crashes-monster-party plot is predictable.
It's safe, colorful, and energetic enough to keep kids engaged without being educational or particularly enriching beyond 'don't judge people who are different.' Think of it as a solid rainy-day watch that won't make you want to leave the room—but also won't change anyone's life. If your kid digs it, there are three sequels and a TV series, so buckle up.
