If your only memory of He-Man is the campy 1983 show with recycled running animations and cheesy end-of-episode PSA lessons, this 2002 reboot will surprise you. Produced by Mike Young Productions, it approached the clash between Eternia's high-tech kingdom and Skeletor's Snake Mountain with genuine narrative ambition.
Prince Adam is reimagined as a scrawny, reluctant teenager who actually has to grow into the mantle of He-Man rather than a fully-formed bodybuilder pretending to be goofy. The combat is brisk, the worldbuilding ties ancient magic to sci-fi tech reasonably well, and the stakes feel real without turning grim.
It was unceremoniously cancelled after two seasons, which leaves a few plot threads hanging, but as an introduction to classic Saturday-morning heroics for elementary schoolers, it delivers plenty of punch.
