Here's the thing: this game doesn't exist anymore. Niantic pulled the plug in January 2022 after it failed to capture the Pokémon GO lightning-in-a-bottle magic.
When it was around, Wizards Unite had a cool premise—casting spells in AR, exploring your neighborhood for magical creatures, teaming up with other players. For hardcore Potter fans, it scratched an itch. But the execution was messy. Parents reported constant crashes, overly complicated potion systems, and energy mechanics that felt stingy. Kids loved the concept but got frustrated by the glitches.
The bigger issue was physical safety. The AR immersion was so engaging that kids would wander into streets, trespass, or lose track of time completely. It required helicopter-level supervision for younger players.
Bottom line: if your kid is asking about this, show them some YouTube videos of what it was like, then redirect them to something that actually exists. The game had potential but never delivered, and now it's just a footnote in mobile gaming history.
