This 2023 reboot ditches the cozy, campy formula of the original 90s show and leans into modern teen-mystery territory. Instead of standalone half-hour morality tales, you get a full-season arc about five high school kids uncovering a deadly cover-up their own parents pulled off in the 1990s.
The scares pack actual punch. Between grotesque worm consumption, cloning meltdowns, and Justin Long committing entirely to physical demon possession, the show pushes right up against its TV-14 rating. For an 11- or 12-year-old wanting something that feels grown up without diving into R-rated slasher material, it hits a satisfying middle ground.
