Float is peak Wattpad cinema: a Type-A future doctor named Waverly sees her summer plans in Taipei fall through, detours to a small Canadian beach town, nearly drowns at a party, and gets private swimming lessons from the local lifeguard, Blake (played by Robbie Amell, Cousin Stephen's brother, doing his best soulful squint). If a teen in your house already devours Jenny Han shows or TikTok book-tok romances, they know the exact rhythm of this movie.
Critics were unimpressed (46% on Rotten Tomatoes, 5.4 on IMDb), mostly because the script treats every minor miscommunication like a five-alarm tragedy. Still, compared to the toxic-boyfriend subgenre of YA romance, Blake is actually nice to her. It is cheesy, sunny, and harmlessly average — a fine Friday night watch for a 14-year-old, and very easy for a parent to fold laundry to without worrying about what's on screen.
