Fire Force has a legitimately cool premise—supernatural firefighters with pyrokinetic abilities fighting people who spontaneously combust into fire monsters. The animation is gorgeous and the fight scenes are genuinely impressive.
But here's the problem: the show can't get out of its own way. Just when you're invested in the action and world-building, it throws in gratuitous fan service that feels completely out of place. Multiple reviewers—including fans of anime—call this out as a major flaw. The tonal whiplash between serious firefighting drama and inappropriate comedy undermines everything.
Add in graphic violence (we're talking decapitation and dismemberment), and you've got a show that's hard to recommend even to older teens. The 7.6 IMDB rating suggests it has its fans, but the consensus is clear: this prioritizes spectacle and sexualization over storytelling. If your teen is deep into anime and can handle TV-MA content, they might enjoy it for the visuals. But there are better shows that deliver great action without the problematic baggage.
