Screenwise Verdict

Dog Man: A Sprinkle in Time releases November 3, 2026, but if your kid has devoured the previous 14 books, you already know the setup. Dav Pilkey's graphic novel formula is a massive hit for early and reluctant readers, blending slapstick cartoon energy with real emotional grounding.

In this fifteenth installment, anti-hero Grampa alters the fabric of space and time, forcing Dog Man, Li'l Petey, and friends to step up and fix the temporal mess. While we will hold full judgment until the physical release, parents can expect the same reliable mix of Flip-O-Rama animations, drawing guides, and sweet themes of kindness that make this series a mainstay in school libraries.

Age Fit

Best for kids ages 6 to 11 (grades 1 through 5), particularly visual learners, reluctant readers, or young comic creators.

Conversation Starters

"If Grampa accidentally changed history, what era would you hope Dog Man landed in first?"
"Grampa started as a villain—do you think someone who made bad choices in the past can truly change for the better?"
"Which character from the series is your favorite to draw when you make your own comics?"

Deep Dive

What to expect from Dog Man's time-travel saga

Dav Pilkey's Dog Man series has done remarkable heavy lifting for 21st-century childhood literacy. By wrapping real themes—redemption, emotional regulation, non-traditional family structures—inside bright superhero parodies and hand-drawn comic panels, Pilkey makes reading feel like a reward rather than an assignment.

In A Sprinkle in Time, scheduled for late 2026, Grampa takes center stage by disrupting space and time. Time travel is a classic comic book storytelling tool, opening up visual gags, historical shifts, and alternate timeline nonsense that young readers tend to adore.

Why graphic novels build confidence

For kids transitioning out of early readers or struggling with dense blocks of text, graphic novels provide critical visual context clues. The illustration supports reading comprehension without sacrificing narrative speed. Pilkey also includes step-by-step drawing instructions and interactive Flip-O-Ramas at the back of each book, nudging kids directly from consuming stories to writing and drawing their own.
