A Time Capsule of Holiday Trivia
Released in 1999 by Anton Publications, the Christmas Carols & Songs Game is exactly what it says on the tin. It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel—or the wreath. You roll a die, move your pawn, and answer trivia. The categories are standard fare: Name the Song, Multiple Choice, Keywords, and Fill in the Blank.
The real heart of the game is the Sing the Next Line category. This is where the game moves from a dry quiz to a social experience. For a kid who is shy, this might be a nightmare, but for a family that leans into the festive cheese, it’s the only part that really matters.
The '90s Board Game Problem
Because this was designed in the late '90s, it suffers from the 'Roll and Move' curse. You can be the world's leading expert on O Holy Night and still lose because you keep rolling ones. Modern board game design has largely moved past this because it feels unfair, but for a casual holiday game, most families won't mind the luck factor.
Who is this for?
This isn't a game you buy for your kids to play alone. It's a tool for multi-generational engagement. It’s one of the few games where a 70-year-old might actually have a massive competitive advantage over a teenager, which can be a fun dynamic shift for a family game night. Just don't expect it to stay on the table past December 26th.
