This is Carcassonne with a paint job, and that's not a bad thing. The safari theme works well for families with younger kids who might find medieval city-building a bit dry. The watering hole mechanic adds a nice cooperative twist to the usual tile-laying competition.
It's not revolutionary—Board Game Quest gave it 3 stars and called it "fun but not better than the original"—but it doesn't need to be. At 35 minutes with a 1.81 complexity rating, it's an excellent entry point for kids learning strategic thinking. The 7.0 BGG rating and 4.8 Amazon rating confirm it does what it sets out to do.
If you don't own any Carcassonne game, this is a solid pick for families with elementary-aged kids. If you already have the original, this is more of a "nice to have" than essential. Either way, it's quality family game time with zero screen time and actual face-to-face interaction.
