Look, if your kid is in their horse phase and tearing through every equestrian book they can find, Canterwood Crest will keep them busy. It's safe, easy to read, and has enough competition/drama to turn pages.
But let's be real: this is literary cotton candy. The boarding school setting is pure wish fulfillment, the conflicts are manufactured, and the characters' biggest problems are whether they'll make the riding team or get invited to the right party. It's not badly written, but it's not particularly good either—just competent formula fiction that knows its audience.
The 18-book series length is either a blessing (endless content!) or a warning sign (how much mileage can you really get from this premise?). If your kid loves it, great—reading is reading. But if they're looking for something with more substance, there are better middle-grade options out there that still feature horses without the paint-by-numbers drama.
