City Folk is Animal Crossing in its purest form: gentle, slow, and genuinely wholesome. It's one of the safest games you can hand a kid—no purchases, no predatory mechanics, just a peaceful town to tend.
That said, this is a 2008 Wii game, and it shows. If your kid has played Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Switch, going back to City Folk will feel like time-traveling to the stone age. The graphics are dated, the interface is clunkier, and frankly, New Horizons does everything this game does but better.
But if you've got a Wii gathering dust and a kid who's never experienced Animal Crossing? This is a lovely, low-stakes introduction to gaming. Just know that the real-time mechanic might have them checking in daily, and you'll want to supervise any online play.
Bottom line: It's a solid, safe choice, but unless you're specifically hunting for Wii games, you're probably better off with the newer Switch version.
