This is a competent, well-designed concept book for the very youngest readers. Kevin Henkes knows his craft, and the pastel elephants are pleasant enough. It teaches spatial relationships and counting in a calm, rhythmic way that works well for bedtime or lap time with a baby.
But let's be real: it's not exciting. It's 89 words about elephants walking, and then they... sleep. That's it. There's no story, no stakes, no memorable characters. It does its educational job efficiently, but you won't be sad when your kid outgrows it.
If you have a 1- or 2-year-old who's just learning to sit for books, this is a solid choice. If your kid is 4+, skip it—they need something with more substance. It's fine. Just fine.
