Let's be crystal clear: X is not for kids. Period.
Every parent safety organization—Qustodio, Internet Matters, Plugged In, SaferKid—says the same thing: do not let your child on this platform. There are no parental controls, no content filters, no time limits. A 13-year-old can open the app and immediately encounter pornography, graphic violence, hate speech, or predators. The platform's 'raw and unfiltered' approach means exactly that: unfiltered garbage flows freely.
But here's the thing: X isn't great for adults either. The algorithm is designed to amplify outrage, not insight. The platform rewards dunking, pile-ons, and tribal warfare. Misinformation spreads faster than corrections. The infinite scroll is engineered to keep you rage-scrolling for hours.
Yes, there's breaking news. Yes, you can follow interesting people. Yes, Spaces can host worthwhile conversations. But the signal-to-noise ratio is abysmal, and the mental health cost is real. If you're an adult who can curate your feed ruthlessly, set strict time limits, and resist the urge to argue with strangers, maybe—maybe—there's value here. But for kids? Absolutely not. Not at 13, not at 15, probably not even at 17.
Keep your kids far away from this digital dumpster fire.
