Here's the brutal truth: Wishbone is objectively brilliant in concept and execution for its time. A show that makes kids excited about The Odyssey and Tale of Two Cities? That's wizardry. The WISE components are genuinely excellent.
But it's 1995 PBS, and it shows. The pacing is glacial by 2025 standards. The production looks like someone's community theater with a talented dog. Modern kids who've been raised on Bluey and Encanto will likely check out within minutes.
This is a tough one because it should be great, and for a specific type of bookish, patient kid it still might work. But for most families, you're fighting an uphill battle against 30 years of entertainment evolution. The nostalgia is strong for millennials who grew up with it, but that doesn't mean your kids will sit through it.
If you can get them to engage, the literary foundation it builds is genuinely valuable. But that's a big if.
