Waze is a solid, practical tool for families with driving teens. It's not entertainment, it's not educational in a traditional sense, and it's definitely not for young kids.
The community-powered traffic and hazard alerts are genuinely useful, and the app does a good job of making driving less stressful. For parents of new drivers, the real-time updates and route guidance can provide peace of mind.
The privacy trade-off is real—Waze needs to know where you are constantly to work—but that's the deal with any navigation app. The Kids Mode is a nice touch, though it's unclear how many families actually use it.
Bottom line: If you have a teen driver, Waze is a useful co-pilot app. If you don't, there's no reason for your family to have it. It's not going to win any awards for enrichment or imagination, but it does its job well.
