Warframe is one of those rare free-to-play games that actually respects your time and wallet—mostly. It's been around since 2013 (not 2024, despite the synopsis referencing a Game Awards promo), constantly evolving with new content.
The good: genuinely skill-based movement, deep customization, and a cooperative focus that brings out the best in online gaming. Parents on Common Sense Media generally approve for teens, noting the rich storyline and engaging gameplay.
The real talk: this is M-rated for a reason. There's dismemberment, blood, and constant combat. It's sci-fi violence against robots and aliens, not realistic gore, but it's still intense. The game is also notoriously complex and grindy—expect your teen to sink serious hours into farming resources and mastering systems.
If your 16+ kid is into action games and can handle the violence level of a Marvel movie (but crunchier), this is actually one of the better options in the free-to-play space. Just be ready for them to explain mod configurations at dinner.
