Look, Valiant is safe. It's wholesome. It won't rot anyone's brain or give them nightmares. But let's be real: this is a movie that exists, and that's about the nicest thing you can say about it.
The reviews are brutal across the board for a reason. The animation looks like a early-2000s video game cutscene, the story is predictable, and the humor falls flat. It's the kind of movie that gets made when a studio wants to capitalize on the success of better films (think: every studio trying to be Pixar in the mid-2000s) but doesn't want to invest the time or money to actually make something good.
That said, if you've got a 6-year-old who's obsessed with birds or WWII history (a niche Venn diagram, admittedly), they might get something out of it. The historical angle about carrier pigeons is genuinely interesting, and the movie is mercifully short. But for most modern kids, this will feel dated and dull. There are dozens of better animated films on Disney+ that deliver similar messages with actual entertainment value.
Watch it if you're desperate or doing a deep dive through Disney's entire catalog. Otherwise, keep scrolling.
