Toca Boca World is one of the better kids' apps out there, full stop. It's what you hope for: creative, safe, no ads, and actually fun enough that kids choose it over YouTube brain rot.
The single-player design is clutch—no randos, no chat, no drama. Just your kid building worlds and telling stories. The character creator and home designer tools are legitimately good, and the monthly updates mean it doesn't get stale in two weeks.
The main friction point is the in-app purchases. The base game is free and solid, but kids will want the expansions. It's not predatory like gacha games, but it's definitely designed to make them ask. Set the boundary early and stick to it.
For parents trying to manage screen time with something that's not total garbage, this is a solid win. It's creative play that happens to be digital, rather than a dopamine slot machine disguised as a game.
