Look, I want to be kind to the Muppets. They've given us so much joy over the decades. But this 2005 made-for-TV movie is a swing and a miss.
With a 30% critic score, 36% audience score, and a dismal 2.8/5 on Letterboxd, this isn't a hidden gem—it's a universally acknowledged dud. The concept (Dorothy wants to be a singer! Toto is a prawn!) sounds cute on paper, but the execution is flat, the pacing drags, and the magic that makes Muppets special is largely absent.
Is it safe? Absolutely. Will your 7-year-old be traumatized? No. Will anyone actually enjoy watching it? Unlikely. There are so many better Muppet options (The Muppet Movie, Muppet Christmas Carol, the 2011 reboot) and better Wizard of Oz adaptations that spending 90 minutes on this feels like a waste.
If your kid is obsessed with both Muppets AND Oz, maybe give it a shot. Otherwise, skip it and watch literally any other Muppet production instead.
