Here's the thing: Game Changers is actually better than it has any right to be. It's a Disney+ reboot of a 90s sports franchise, which should be an automatic eye-roll, but it manages to tell a genuinely relevant story about how youth sports have gotten way too intense.
The 87% critic score isn't lying—the writing is solid, the kids are likable, and the themes about finding joy in playing again (instead of just grinding for wins) are legitimately valuable for modern families drowning in travel team culture.
That said, the 69% audience score tells the other half of the story: it's not exactly must-watch TV. Kids without nostalgia for the original films might find it just okay, and the pacing feels a bit Disney Channel-esque at times. It's comfort food television—pleasant, safe, mildly enriching, but not groundbreaking.
If your kid plays competitive sports, this might actually spark some good conversations. If they don't, it's a perfectly fine way to spend time together, but there are probably more engaging options out there.
