The King of Random (TKOR) is the grandfather of the 'mad science' YouTube genre, but it is currently living in a bit of a legacy shadow. Since the tragic passing of founder Grant Thompson in 2019, the channel has transitioned into a production house that cycles through hosts. It still sticks to the core mission—making cool stuff out of hardware store junk—but it lacks the singular, obsessive spark of the early days.
It is fantastic for sparking a 'how does that work?' mindset, but you have to be the voice of reason. If your kid watches a video on potato cannons or candy maces, they will want to build one. It is high-quality STEM content that requires a high-quality safety talk immediately afterward.
