This is a technical marvel that reimagines The Jungle Book as a more serious, emotionally weighty adventure—and that's both its strength and its challenge. The photorealistic CGI is genuinely breathtaking, but it also makes Shere Khan's threats and the animal fights feel viscerally dangerous in a way the 1967 cartoon never did.
If your kid loved the animated version's 'Bare Necessities' sing-alongs and goofy King Louie, this might feel like a different movie entirely. It's darker, scarier, and less whimsical. But for kids 8-9+ who are ready for more intensity, it's a visually stunning journey with strong themes about identity, belonging, and courage.
Just know what you're signing up for: this is PG that earns its rating. Have the remote ready to pause if younger viewers get overwhelmed, and plan to talk through the scary parts afterward.
