Let's be real: Bob Ross is a cultural icon and genuinely wholesome, but most kids today will bounce off this faster than paint off a palette knife.
The show is objectively perfect from a content perspective—zero concerns, pure instruction and encouragement, genuine skill-building. But the 1983 pacing and production values make it functionally unwatchable for the average modern kid raised on fast cuts and constant stimulation.
That said, if you have a kid who's actually into art, or you need something genuinely calming (not just 'educational TV' but actually meditative), this delivers. It also works surprisingly well as background viewing while doing homework or crafts.
The massive streaming availability means you can test it risk-free. Just don't be surprised when your 7-year-old asks if you can put Bluey back on after 3 minutes.
