The Croods is a solid, colorful family adventure that checks the boxes without breaking new ground. It's got heart—Grug's journey from fear-driven dad to courageous leader is genuinely moving—and the animation creates a fun, imaginative prehistoric world.
That said, it's not going to become anyone's favorite movie. It's the kind of film you put on during a rainy afternoon, everyone enjoys it well enough, and then you forget about it until it pops up on a streaming service again. The peril is real but cartoonish, the messages are positive without being preachy, and there's nothing here that'll make you regret hitting play.
It's DreamWorks doing DreamWorks things circa 2013—competent, entertaining, family-friendly, but not quite Pixar-level memorable. If your kids are in that 6-10 sweet spot and you need something safe and engaging, this delivers. Just don't expect it to spark a merchandise obsession or repeated viewing demands.
