Here's the thing: The Carrie Diaries is a perfectly fine teen drama from 2013 that did what CW shows do—pretty people, relationship drama, nostalgic setting. The critics liked it (84% on RT), audiences were into it, and it's certainly watchable.
But let's be real: this show is now over a decade old and feels very much like a product of early 2010s CW programming. It's formulaic, relationship-heavy, and doesn't offer much beyond standard teen soap opera fare. The 1980s setting is fun, and the connection to Sex and the City gives it some brand recognition, but it's not particularly imaginative or enriching.
For a 14-year-old who loves teen dramas and is looking for something relatively safe (no graphic content, predictable storylines), this could work. But modern teens raised on more sophisticated shows might find it slow, dated, and a bit shallow. It's not bad—it's just very much a product of its time that hasn't aged particularly well. There are better options out there.
