Let's be real: this is a nearly 3-hour meditation on trauma and vengeance disguised as a superhero movie. It's beautifully shot and genuinely well-crafted as a detective thriller, but it's absolutely not for kids and even teens will struggle with the runtime and relentless grimness.
The Batman earns points for taking the character seriously and exploring meaningful themes about justice vs. revenge, but it's punishingly long and offers almost zero levity. There's intense violence throughout—brutal hand-to-hand combat, disturbing serial killer imagery, and a body count that keeps climbing.
If you've got a mature 16-year-old who loves dark, slow-burn detective stories and can sit through Lord of the Rings without checking their phone, maybe. But for most families, this is a 'wait until they're older' situation. The Dark Knight trilogy is more accessible and honestly more rewatchable. This one's for the film students and the brooding teens who think they're too cool for the MCU.
