Let's be clear: Telegram was built for dissidents in authoritarian regimes who need uncensored, private communication. That's noble. But the same features that protect activists also create a playground for illegal content, extremism, and predatory behavior.
Every major parent safety organization—Bark, Protect Young Eyes, MMGuardian, Common Sense Media—flags this app as dangerous for kids. The 'find nearby users' feature is terrifying. Self-destructing messages eliminate accountability. Massive unmoderated channels host content you absolutely don't want your kids seeing.
For adults who understand what they're getting into? Sure, it's a powerful tool. For kids or teens? Hard no. If you discover this on your child's device, it warrants an immediate conversation about why they felt they needed it and what they've been exposed to.
There are dozens of better messaging options for families. This isn't one of them.
