Starship Troopers is a cult classic for a reason—Verhoeven made a brilliant, scathing satire of fascism disguised as a dumb action movie. The problem? A lot of people watched it as a dumb action movie and missed the point entirely.
For adults who appreciate dark satire and can handle extreme violence, it's genuinely clever. The propaganda clips are pitch-perfect parodies, the fascist society is uncomfortably plausible, and the whole thing functions as a critique of military recruitment and blind patriotism.
But this is emphatically not for kids or teens. The violence is graphic and relentless, there's nudity, and the satirical framing is subtle enough that younger viewers will likely just see cool space marines shooting bugs while cheering for a fascist regime. That's... not great.
If you're an adult looking for smart sci-fi satire and can stomach gore, this holds up. If you have kids in the house, keep this one locked down tight.
