Let's be honest: this movie is rough. The fourth installment of the Spy Kids franchise abandons the charm and creativity of the originals in favor of lazy potty humor and a talking dog whose primary character trait is farting. Jessica Alba tries her best with the stepmom-turned-spy role, but the script gives her nothing to work with.
The ratings tell the story—3.6 on IMDb, 23% on Rotten Tomatoes, 1.7 on Letterboxd. This isn't just 'not great,' it's genuinely one of those kids' movies that makes parents question their life choices. The stepfamily bonding theme could have been sweet, but it's drowned out by juvenile gags and stale spy tropes.
If your 6-year-old is obsessed with spy movies and has already burned through the better options, fine—it's safe enough and the action is cartoonish. But don't expect to enjoy it yourself, and don't be surprised when they forget about it immediately after. There are so many better family action movies out there.
