Look, Spy Kids 2 isn't going to win any awards for aging gracefully. The CGI looks like it was rendered on a TI-83 calculator, and that 40% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is basically people saying 'yeah, I remember this being better.'
That said, if you've got elementary-aged kids who are into spy stuff and you need something genuinely safe and family-positive, this delivers. The sibling teamwork is solid, the message about using your brain over gadgets is timely (even if accidentally so), and nothing here will give anyone nightmares or require awkward conversations afterward.
The problem is it's just kind of... boring? Even critics who liked it in 2002 were probably grading on a curve. Modern kids raised on Marvel and Pixar are going to look at those rubber-suit creatures and early digital effects and check out mentally. It's not unwatchable, but it's definitely in that 'sick day background noise' category rather than 'movie night pick.'
If your kid is specifically asking for it or you're doing a nostalgia rewatch, go for it. Otherwise, there are better family spy adventures out there that haven't aged like milk.
