This is exactly what a museum app should be: helpful, unobtrusive, and completely free of nonsense. No ads, no purchases, no gamification trying to get your kid hooked—just straightforward navigation and educational content that makes the Smithsonian's massive Natural History Museum less overwhelming.
The New York Times called it "a great aid" and they're right. The personalized recommendations are genuinely useful when you only have two hours and three kids with different interests. The behind-the-scenes content adds value without being mandatory.
That said, it's from 2015 and it shows. The interface is functional but not exciting, and the beacon navigation can be wonky (especially near that giant whale). It's also completely useless unless you're physically in DC at the museum, so don't download it for your kid to play with at home.
Bottom line: If you're visiting the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, download this. If you're not, don't bother. It's a tool, not entertainment, but it's a really good tool.
