Sea of Stars is that rare modern game that successfully channels the spirit of '90s RPGs without feeling like a museum piece. It's gorgeous, thoughtful, and genuinely fun—with turn-based combat that rewards planning and a story about friendship that doesn't feel like a PSA.
The E10+ rating is spot-on. There's mild fantasy violence (pixelated, nothing graphic) and the occasional 'damn' or 'hell,' but it's all in service of a well-told story. No online nonsense, no microtransactions, no manipulative design—just a complete game that respects your kid's time and your wallet.
The main barrier is the reading. This is a text-heavy RPG, so younger or reluctant readers might bounce off it. But for kids ready to dig into a meaty story and think strategically, it's a fantastic choice. Parents who grew up on Chrono Trigger will get a kick out of playing alongside their kids.
