This series is a classic for a reason. Sammy isn't some perfect, polished hero; she's messy, she's observant, and she’s stuck in a weird living situation that makes her an underdog you actually want to root for.
In 'Sisters of Mercy,' the plot moves fast and handles social issues without making the reader feel like they're sitting through a lecture. Even though it was written in 1999, Sammy’s voice still feels fresh and modern. It’s a great pick for kids who want a mystery with some actual soul.
