Sammy Keyes is the antidote to 'perfect' protagonists. She’s messy, lives in a retirement home illegally, and gets into actual trouble.
While the technology in the book is definitely from another era (hello, binoculars and payphones), the voice is still punchy and the mystery holds up. It's a solid, high-quality read for kids who want a detective story with a bit more attitude and realism than the classics.
