Recess is wholesome, well-intentioned, and genuinely good at modeling healthy friendships and social problem-solving. The characters are likable, the messages are solid, and there's real heart here.
But let's be real: this show is nearly 30 years old, and it shows. The animation is flat and dated, the cultural references are from when Tamagotchis were cutting-edge, and the pacing feels slow compared to what modern kids are used to. Your 7-year-old might watch a couple episodes and then wander off to play Roblox.
If you're looking for nostalgia or want to share something from your own childhood, great. If your kid actually gets into it, even better—the content is genuinely positive. But don't be surprised if they bounce off it pretty quickly. There are more engaging options that deliver similar social-emotional lessons with modern production values.
Still, it's harmless, it's on Disney+, and if your kid does connect with it, you can feel good about what they're watching. Just manage your expectations about whether they'll actually want to.
