Here's the truth: Reading Rainbow is objectively excellent educational television and deserves every accolade it received. LeVar Burton created something genuinely special that inspired millions of kids to love reading.
But we're in 2025 now, and this show is 42 years old. The pacing is glacial. The video quality looks like someone's VHS tape collection. The graphics are hilariously dated. Most modern kids—even those who love books—will find it borderline unwatchable.
That doesn't make it bad. It makes it a museum piece. If you're a millennial parent feeling nostalgic, sure, throw on an episode and see if your kid vibes with it. Some patient, book-loving kids might genuinely enjoy it. But if you're looking for something that will actually hold your child's attention and foster a love of reading in 2025, you're probably better off with newer options (or just, you know, reading actual books together).
The WISE components are all stellar. The watchability for modern audiences? Not so much.
