Raising Hope got stellar reviews when it aired (2010-2014), and there's genuine heart buried in there about an unexpected family pulling together. The premise—young guy accidentally becomes a dad, moves back home, and his whole quirky family helps raise the baby—has potential.
But here's the reality: this is very much a product of early 2010s sitcom sensibilities. Lots of crude humor, sexual jokes, stereotypical working-class caricatures, and that three-camera laugh-track format that feels increasingly stale. It's not terrible, but it's not exactly enriching either.
For teens 14+ who can handle adult humor and want something light, it's fine. But there are better family comedies out there that don't rely so heavily on lowbrow jokes. And for modern kids used to streaming-era comedies? This might feel like watching something from the distant past.
