Here's the truth: Pokémon (1997) is a cultural phenomenon that defined a generation, but the actual anime is... fine. It's safe, it's got heart, and it teaches decent lessons about friendship and perseverance. Pikachu is iconic for a reason.
But let's be real—this show is 900+ episodes of the same formula. Ash arrives in a new place, faces a challenge, Team Rocket interrupts with their motto, they blast off again, rinse and repeat. The animation is dated, the pacing drags, and Ash somehow stays 10 years old for literal decades.
Modern kids might struggle to engage with it unless they're already hooked on Pokémon through the games or cards. If your kid is deep in the Pokémon ecosystem, they'll probably enjoy seeing their favorite creatures in action. If not, there are better entry points (the newer movies are more polished, the games are more engaging).
The nostalgia factor is strong for millennial parents, but don't force it. This is one of those cases where the franchise is better than the flagship show.
