Look, Physical is not going to show up on any family movie night list, and that's by design. This is a raw, often brutal examination of a woman's mental health crisis set against the pastel backdrop of '80s aerobics culture.
Rose Byrne is phenomenal, and the show doesn't pull punches about eating disorders, self-hatred, or the grinding work of clawing your way to empowerment. But it's HARD to watch. The protagonist's inner voice is relentlessly cruel, the depictions of bulimia are graphic, and the whole thing is emotionally draining.
For adults who can handle intense psychological drama and aren't triggered by eating disorder content, there's value here—it's honest about mental health in ways TV rarely is. But this scores low on WISE because it's categorically unsafe for younger viewers and even for many adults. It's well-made misery, basically.
If you're looking for '80s nostalgia with actual fun, watch GLOW instead. This is for the 'I want to feel emotionally wrecked tonight' crowd only.
