This is one of those rare shows that's genuinely clever without being pretentious, and funny without being stupid. The murder mystery hook is engaging enough to keep teens and adults invested, while the character development and friendship dynamics give it heart.
The intergenerational friendship at the center is actually refreshing - three people who would never normally connect finding common ground through their shared obsession. It's a nice counter-narrative to our age-segregated culture.
That said, it's definitely a murder mystery, which means death, crime scenes, and investigation of how people died. It's played more for comedy and intrigue than horror, but it's not Scooby-Doo. Expect some mature themes, likely some language, and content that's firmly in the teen-and-up category.
The show also does something interesting by poking fun at our collective true crime obsession while simultaneously being a true crime story. There's a bit of "have your cake and eat it too" happening, but at least it's self-aware.
Bottom line: Great for a family watch if your kids are 14+, smart enough to keep adults engaged, and a solid choice if you want something that's actually entertaining while not being complete brain rot.
